SWP – Thumbnail Sketches for Retcontinuum

The Summer Writing Project (SWP), in conjunction with JukePop and California Public Libraries, was designed to advocate writing and support reading. We have commenced with the collaborative process of working with our authors, editors and artist, and we will continue to document our progress. In this post, we are detailing the notes from our cover artist, Jeannie Phan, regarding her submitted thumbnail sketches for Retcontinuum by Shaunn Grulkowski.

A – Ray’s mental collapse physically and mentally (broken silhouettes). A subtle interpretation of the bleed out scene at the end minus the gore of the blood. Note: Would need more description on Ray Irvine’s appearance.

B – Overlapping 3 figures – past memories, current Ray, and future CEO. Background is open sky that leads to space (referencing Mars spaceflight memory). Note: Would need more description on Ray and CEO’s appearance to make faces more accurate.

C – Ray’s jumping figure with Mexico’s cityscape in the background. Scene is split with a “memory” scene of space, referencing Mars spaceflight. Note: Would need more description on Ray Irvine’s appearance.
