“When I visit a new city or town, I seek out the book places. The small shops, massive libraries, the dusty ancient piles, the crisp new titles. The places where lovers of words go to be quietly immersed, or to read aloud, to receptively listen. Places where a community forms around what I believe to be humanity’s most valuable invention.
The locations I have chosen to paint for this series are book places that I have been to–bookstores in New York, San Francisco, Prague, Los Angeles, Portland, and libraries in Harlem, Amsterdam, & Malmö, Sweden.
As a painter, I have long been interested in the stories that architecture tells about a place, the history that is gathered or imagined from the design of a building and its wear over time.
Literary Destinations explores the spots where these interests merge, these special vortexes where an infinite number of portals to experience await.”
