The How, The Why: Il Ritorno

January 21, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$5 - $9
Purchase Tickets: $5 Student - $9 General

In this edition of The How, The Why, Jon-Barrett Ingels brings together Libby McDonnell, Associate Director of Circa, John Mangum, President and Artistic Director of the Philharmonic Society of Orange County, and Allen Moon, Artistic Director of Santa Ana Sites, for a discussion around Circa’s upcoming presentation of Il Ritorno, at Chapman University’s Musco Center for the Arts.

The conversation, moderated by Wesley Pinkham, will explore notions and methods of recontextualizing classic literary works for contemporary times, using Circa’s interpretation of Monteverdi’s opera Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria and Homer’s Odyssey as the basis for the conversation.

Australia’s Circa Contemporary Circus is one of the world’s leading performance companies—pioneering how extreme physicality can create powerful and moving performances. Their work pushes the boundaries of the art form, blurring the lines between movement, dance, theatre, opera, and circus, to redraw the limits to which circus can aspire.

Further information on the Tues January 23 performance of Il Ritorno at the Musco Center for the Arts can be found at PhilharmonicSociety.org, or by calling 949-553-2422.
