This workshop will give students tips on how to write novels loosely based on their own experiences.
OC novelist D. Helene will share her insights and tips for turning real life events into compelling fictional narratives. Helene was almost homeless for most of 2014. She turned these travails into the novel, Back in OC: Almost Homeless, aka The (In)Elegant Struggle of Breaking Paradigms. The novel is loosely based on her struggles to find stable housing here in the ultra-expensive housing market of OC and all the shady characters she experienced in doing so. This novel is her second. It’s the sequel to her first novel, Diary of a 99%-er, which is also set against the backdrop of OC.
